Did you happen to notice that sketchboard studio is a bit behind on the whole holiday shopping extravaganza? All I can say is...I got a little distracted by the change of season.
As most know (and can read about in previous blog posts), sketchboard was out all summer at the Old Town Clovis Farmer's Market having fun, meeting new friends and making much ado about the anticipation of Fall. Right after that, we set up shop at the Old Town Flea Market doing basically the same thing and finally enjoying the arrival of Fall.
And then, well, we just slowwwwed downnnn.
Walks were taken in the cool crisp air, oohs and ahhs were made at the changing colors of the leaves and the Thanksgiving holiday was completely and utterly relished. Before we knew it, Christmas smacked us in the face HARD.
A plethora of emails filled our inbox daily with announcements of sale after sale and subject lines that read...
HURRY!
BUY BUY BUY!
DON'T MISS OUT!
The pressure to create, find, and stock the perfect gifts was quite overwhelming.
But before we start debating about whether all holidays were created simply for consumerism, I'd like to make one simple statement...
a holiday will be about whatever you choose to make it about.
Instead of FOMO guiding our gift giving and holiday plans, we could choose...
to slow down and reflect on the good things in life instead of HURRY
focus on the JOY of giving and receiving instead of BUY BUY BUY
and never worry if we MISSED OUT because quality > quantity
And if you're like me, Christmas is always about remembering the gift of Jesus and the joy HE brings.
So, yes, I'd like to encourage you to shop the shop for Christmas gifts and support this little dream of mine called sketchboard studio. But maybe you'd also like to join me in slowing down a little, pumpin' the brakes as the cool kids say. Make those disfigured but delicious Christmas sugar cookies, grab a few extra hugs from loved ones and just be extra cheesy and mushy in every single way. Oh and do some sweet snow sledding, if you're into that kind of thing.
Merry Christmas everyone! Make it a joyful one!
